Services

With more than 30 years of experience as a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, I bring a strong foundation in language, grammar, communication, and attention to detail to every manuscript I edit. My goal is to strengthen your writing while preserving the unique voice and style that make your story your own.

I provide copy editing and proofreading with clear, constructive feedback to help polish your manuscript. When questions of style or usage arise, I reference The Chicago Manual of Style, the industry standard for most fiction.

I believe editing is a collaborative process. Many authors ask trusted friends, family members, or critique partners to review their manuscript before submitting it for professional editing. Each reader offers a different perspective, and every suggestion is simply a tool to strengthen your story. The final decisions always belong to you.

Words From Writers

'Working with Sandra has been an absolute gift. As a developmental editor, she brings her years of experience to provide insight, clarity, and genuine care that strengthen your story and make it more believable. Her attention to detail is incredible, and she remembers everything while catching contradictions before they become problems. Her feedback is always supportive and thoughtful, and she delivers it with intention. She is honest in the best way, guiding you toward your strongest work while cheering you on every step of the way. My story would not be what it is today without her passion and expertise. I truly believe any writer would benefit from her talent. I wholeheartedly recommend Sandra’s services.'

'Sandra Aranda was recommended to me by my brother Carson Hughes (author of Charlie and the Missing Father). She did copy editing for my upcoming book THE ALL-TRUE JOURNAL of SARAH RHYSDALE vol. 1. Sandra was prompt, thorough, and communicative throughout the process. I look forward to working with her again and will be recommending her services to others.'

'Sandra joined the team of editors working on my children's book, Charlie and the Missing Father, as a late-stage additional copy editor, and she found grammatical errors that were missed by many eyes. She saved the day at the very last moment. Sandra was great to work with.'

'Sandra is an awesome beta reader. She's a fantastic hype woman, but she also gives incredibly thoughtful critiques. She has a great eye for fine details that are easy to miss when you're focused on the bigger picture of your fictional world.

I really appreciated her straightforward recommendations and honesty, it made the feedback feel both useful and genuine. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a thoughtful, thorough, and detail-oriented beta reader.'

'Ms. Sandra Aranda has been a wonderful beta reader. She has the perfect balance of being invested in the story and yet also maintains a professional attention to detail that makes her comments insightful and helpful. She worked at a consistent pace, which made it easy for me to implement her suggestions. I appreciated that her suggestions were to fix actual problems (typos and plot inconsistencies) and not personal preference style editing. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs a great beta reader.'

'Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! You are a fantastic beta reader and super sweet. I truly loved how you worded your feedback! You truly were amazing to work with!'

About Sandra

Stack of colorful antique books glowing with magical light on a wooden desk, surrounded by sparkling effects, a lantern, quill pens, and bookshelves in a fantasy-inspired library setting.

My name is Sandra L. Aranda, and after 30 years as a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, a variety of reasons helped me to realize it was time to begin a new chapter in my life. During my speech career, I have owned a private speech therapy practice and also worked in public schools, helping children ages 3–14 develop their speech and language skills. Those years gave me the ability to understand and correct language, communication, grammar, and overall communication skills in a variety of levels.

Once I retired, I realized that I missed working with language right away. After an online search I found and became an ARC reader. I then launched a book review blog, linked below, and discovered a passion for helping independent fiction authors.

However, as I worked with many indie authors, I found I could not read an ARC without my SLP hat on. I found myself taking notes and offering detailed feedback on grammar, continuity, reducing repetitions, vocabulary, and so much more. I figured if I was confused and saw errors, other readers might be too. It did not take long before I realized that what I was doing was editing. This is when I found out what I want to do in my retirement years. I want to edit for indie authors!

I believe every author deserves an editor who they can afford, who is encouraging, and who is genuinely invested in their work. A book is far more than simply a manuscript. It's the product of your countless hours of dedication and creativity. As an avid reader whose tastes span everything from fantasy and magic, romance in a multitude of genres, thrillers, and even post-apocalyptic fiction, I am comfortable with many types of books. This has given me a broad perspective and a keen eye for what keeps readers engaged.

My editing philosophy is simple. I strive to preserve your unique voice while helping your story become the strongest version of itself through honest, thoughtful, and collaborative feedback. Remember, while we are a team YOU are the final voice. I will give suggestions, yet you choose which ones to use.

When I read a book, I become fully immersed in your world. My husband often looks over and sees me smiling, crying, even laughing out loud! My passion and love for language and for reading is what I bring to every book I edit.

No matter whether you are a first-time author or have written many books, I'd be honored to help you with your next manuscript.
